Fear/Sedation Dentistry

Does the sound of a dentist drill make you queasy? Maybe the smell of a dentist's office makes your heart race. If this sounds like you, you are not alone. Almost 30 percent of Americans fear the dentist's office.

Many people first develop fear of the dentist during childhood. Whether you have had a traumatic past experience, or simply shudder at the thought of someone poking and drilling inside your mouth, dental phobia is a very real condition. Oftentimes, people who fear the dentist will avoid dental work time and time again until they cannot tolerate the toothache, or their oral health deteriorates to the point where several, complex treatments are required rather than one simple one.

But a visit to the dentist does not need to be painful or terrifying. Sedation dentistry can put you into a state of relaxation and allow Lakewood Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Greenhalgh to perform your necessary dental work.

With sleep dentistry, an anesthesia will be administered, making you oblivious to your dental procedure. You will not be unconscious, but instead in a level of sedation that allows you to respond to requests while remembering little, if any, of the procedure.

With conscious sedation, an oral medication will be administered to alleviate anxiety. Both sleep dentistry and sedation dentistry will allow you to have a comfortable, effective visit to the dentist.

If you live in the Denver, Colorado area, you no longer have to fear the dentist. Please contact Lakewood Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Greenhalgh today to see if sedation dentistry is right for you.
